"What if" was a humorous and clever show, curated by Steven Zapiain and hosted at Rotofugi Designer Toy Store in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago.
"What if" challenged artists to re-imagine a toy or piece of pop culture and featured 50+ Chicagoland artists in a show which turned nostalgia on its head in thoughtful and amusing ways
For this show, Alex had so much fun putting together his piece. Inspired by two things the artist enjoys very much, a classic Hasbro toy, Mr. Potatohead, and the artist Vincent Van Gogh, Alex's piece, reimagines Vincent Van Gogh's self portrait as if it was done by the 1950's toy, right down to the missing ear. Please enjoy: "What if Mr. Potatohead was an Impressionist."
